Serious legal implications follow after a dog attack

Owning a dog is a tremendous responsibility, and a privilege when done correctly. A well-trained and obedient dog will reward you with love and affection, and you -- as the dog owner -- can live with the satisfaction that the training and regimen you used successfully raised "a good boy."

However, not every dog owner is like this. Many people go into dog ownership with a misconceived idea for how it will go. Others simply aren't responsible or patient enough to properly train a dog. This leads to some dogs that have unfortunate habits, and even some downright dangerous ones. Such behavior can lead to people needlessly suffering from a dog bite or dog attack, and all because the owner of the dog failed to properly train their pet.

In the state of California, strict liability is placed on dog owners when their pet attacks someone. This means that the victim of a dog attack can sue the owner of the dog. As we said above, dog owners have a lot of responsibility. In the state of California, that responsibility extends to liability for their pet's actions.

Dog attacks can have very serious repercussions for the victims. They can suffer post-traumatic stress from the incident, and develop a fear of dogs in general. This pales in comparison, though, to some of the potential injuries that can be suffered in a dog attack. Horrible scarring, broken bones, and serious, catastrophic or even fatal injuries are possible as a result of a dog attack. In the wake of such an incident, the victim (and/or his or her loved ones) needs to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney, and we at The Law Offices of Vincent J. Scotto, III stand ready to help dog attack victims.
